The Society operates a 51 bed Complex Care residence that provides 24-hour nursing care to elders living with a complex range of cognitive and physical challenges.
Residents live at the residence on a permanent basis and receive care from Registered Nurses and Registered Care Aides. Residents have a range of recreation and social programs to participate in daily.
Access to the Complex Care residence is achieved through assessment and referral by Island Health. Residents pay a monthly fee determined by Island Health.
Accommodation and Equipment
Each resident has their own room and bathroom. Twenty one of our fifty-one rooms have wheelchair accessible bathrooms. Bathrooms are also furnished with a sink and medicine cupboard. If the needs of a resident increase, it may be necessary to change rooms: for example, if a wheelchair accessible bathroom is needed or a resident needs to be closer to the Care Station we will make arrangements. Costs associated with room changes will not be charged to residents or families if the change is related to care needs – costs related to changes related to preference (for example, a garden view) will be charged at cost.
Rooms are furnished with a bed, bedside table and lamp, built-in closet and chest of drawers. We are happy to have you bring in furnishings and pictures for hanging on walls. However, furnishings must be selected with consideration to lifts, transfers, care and functionality related to our ability to provide personal and other care. If you have questions regarding suitable furnishings please contact the Director of Care (extension 234).
Carpets, area rugs, mats and other floor coverings are not permitted for safety and cleanliness reasons. Some residents do require special protective mats and the need for those will be determined by the clinical care team.
Televisions must be flat screen that is mounted on the wall – a wall mount arm can be purchased at any hardware or electronics store.
Cable can be connected by calling Shaw Cable – we do not arrange for this service or pay associated costs.
Telephone jacks are installed in each room – we do not arrange for this service or pay any associated costs. Residents will be provided access to a handheld phone by the RN on duty if they do not have a phone in their room.
Electrical equipment must be checked by our maintenance person prior to use and must be CSA approved – please ask that this equipment be cleared by contacting the reception desk (extension 221) and this will be arranged. We reserve the right to decline unsafe or non CSA approved equipment. All items must be labeled with the resident’s name and we do not encourage items of great value as we do not accept responsibility for loss or breakage.
Aids such as raised toilet seats, wheelchairs, walkers, canes and special devices are to be provided by the resident or family and must be well marked. We do not accept responsibility for equipment loss or breakage.
Greenwoods wheelchairs are available for temporary use only – residents must purchase their own if necessary.
Laundry and Housekeeping
Greenwoods will provide laundry service 7 days a week to ensure personal clothing and linens are laundered daily as needed. Hand wash and/or delicate cycle laundering is not available and dry cleaning must be arranged by the resident or representative at resident cost.
It is imperative that all personal clothing be initialed with permanent marker when you first move in. We ask that any clothing brought in after you move in be sent to the laundry area for marking to ensure that your items are returned to you after laundering.
Daily housekeeping includes light dusting, sweeping, mopping and full cleaning of bathroom. A weekly deep cleaning is done on a rotating schedule. If you determine that there is a need for a response to an unexpected spill please see either the housekeeper on duty or another member of the staff.
