This giving season, your help is needed right here at home
All around the world, this special season is a time to think of others, and support organizations that make our world a better place. As Joni Mitchell sang, “there’s a wide, wide world of noble causes.”
Well, right at your doorstep is a cause that serves a group of islanders Salt Spring owes so much to: our seniors. They are our family, our friends, our neighbours. They are us.

Having the privilege of living here, in our own community, through that stage of life when we need extra care and comforts, is made possible for many of our elders by Greenwoods. Our Long-Term Care and Assisted Living residences, and community services like Meals-on-Wheels, Respite Care and Adult Day Program, fill truly essential needs. This season, we hope you’ll consider a gift to Greenwoods’ Annual Appeal, to help us continue to serve our Salt Spring elder community, right here at home.
And this year, thanks to Country Grocer and an anonymous donor, community donations made by December 31, 2025 will be matched on a dollar-for-dollar basis to the total amount of $10,000. This means that the first $10,000 we receive from the will become $20,000! We are so grateful for this act of generosity and community leadership.
Because we need your help now, more than ever.
Supporting locally-governed eldercare at Greenwoods and Braehaven is an integral aspect of living in this place we share and value. It’s part of what makes this our home – a caring community where everybody counts. Thank you for considering Greenwoods this year.
Where do Greenwoods donations go?

Greenwoods Eldercare is a community-based, non-profit society that owns and manages the Greenwoods Long-Term Care and Braehaven Assisted Living facilities, as well as providing community services such as Meals-on-Wheels, Respite Care, and an Adult Day Program. We depend on donations to supplement our basic operational funding as an Island Health affiliate.
Community donations are used in a variety of ways that add to the quality of life for Greenwoods and Braehaven residents. This may include priorities such as improvement of facilities; upgrades to equipment and furnishings; enhancements to resident comforts and environment; and professional development for our dedicated staff. Your dollars are always applied to the area of greatest need.
